Canadian artists Stan Douglas’ 2011 ≠ 1848 is an impressive work of art, featuring large panoramic photographs, taken in several cities in 2011. The common theme? Protest. In the series Douglas draws a parallel with the European revolutions of 1848. But anyone looking closely at the pictures will see that something is not quite right. Douglas based his hyper-detailed photographs on news reports and aerial photographs. He meticulously reconstructed the uprisings with actors, extras and props, making every detail, both foreground and background, razor-sharp. In this way, the photos form both an overview and an invitation to get closer.
The second part of this exposition is a video installation called ISDN, in which, on two screens facing each other, two rap duo’s engage in a call-and-response that explores music as a form of cross-continental cultural collaboration.
This exhibition took place at Museum De Pont in Tilburg from September 2023 until January 2024. Indyvideo supported the museum with the installation of this exhibition with technical design, consultancy and guidance.
