BAK or Basis voor Actuele Kunst is a leading international platform for theoretically-informed, politically-driven art and experimental research. While their homebase in Utrecht was undergoing renovations they were hosted by, among others, the Nicolaïkerk for the exhibiton To Watch the War: In Solidarity. One of the contributors to this exhibit was Lebanese artist Rabih Mroué. His work Images Mon Amour (2021) is a monumental, slowly ascending video projection of a collage of images showing destruction and armed conflicts in the Middle East. Beginning with the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War, Mroué collected newspaper clippings and digital imagery for about 10 years so as to restlessly study the uncomfortable relationship between image, visual media, the collective memory of past and present human-made catastrophes, and one’s accountability for these.
At Indyvideo we always find the best solution for your technical and AV needs. Whether it’s indoors, outdoors, in a theatre, museum, castle or church, we’re here to help. We created a projection set-up in the Nicolaï Church, where this impressive and haunting work was available to the public from September 22 until December 8, 2023.
